Getting started
Open Crucial Announcement Bar from your Shopify admin. The first time, you'll be prompted to turn the app on in your theme — that opens the theme editor with the "Crucial Announcement Bar" app embed ready to enable; switch it on and click Save. Back in the app, create a bar, pick its type, edit the content and design, choose where it should appear, and click Publish.
No. Everything is configured from the app's screens. You only enable the app embed once in your theme editor — there are no theme code changes.
Simple bars, scrolling (running-line) bars, and rotating bars that cycle through several messages. You can also add a countdown timer or a free-shipping progress bar.
Showing & fixing bars
The usual causes, in order:
- The app embed is off. Go to Theme editor → App embeds, enable "Crucial Announcement Bar," and Save.
- The bar is still a draft — open it and click Publish.
- A schedule hasn't started yet or has already ended — check the start and end dates.
- Page targeting excludes the page you're viewing — check the bar's placement rules.
- Country targeting is on and your location isn't in the list.
- You dismissed the bar earlier on this device, so your browser is hiding it — try another browser or clear the site's data.
- Your trial or subscription isn't active — publishing requires an active plan.
Yes. You can target the home page, all or specific products, all or specific collections, the cart, or every page — and exclude pages by template or URL. You can also limit a bar to specific countries.
Most bars sit at the top or bottom of the page. To put a banner inside a specific section (a "custom position"), add the Custom Announcement Bar block to that section in your theme editor. Custom-position blocks require an Online Store 2.0 theme.
Yes. Each bar supports per-language translations, so visitors see the right text based on your store's languages and Markets settings.
Themes & performance
Yes. Announcement bars work on all Shopify themes, including older "vintage" themes. Only the custom-position block (placing a bar inside a specific section) requires an Online Store 2.0 theme.
The storefront script is intentionally small and loads without blocking your page, and its styles load in the page head to avoid flicker. Your bar settings are delivered together with your theme rather than fetched from our servers on every page view, and engagement events are sent in the background — so the impact on your store's speed is minimal.
Pricing & billing
The app starts with a 7-day free trial. After that it's a flat monthly subscription — see the Plan & billing page inside the app for the current price. Billing is handled securely by Shopify and appears on your Shopify invoice.
You'll be asked to subscribe to keep publishing bars. Until you start a plan, published bars may stop showing on your storefront.
Cancel from the Plan & billing page in the app, or simply uninstall it. Shopify stops billing as soon as the app is uninstalled.
Data & privacy
No. The app records anonymous engagement counts (impressions, clicks, and dismissals) tied to a bar — never names, emails, IP addresses, or cookies. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Shopify automatically removes the bars from your theme. We keep your bars and analytics briefly in case you reinstall, then permanently delete your store's data after Shopify's removal request (about 48 hours after uninstall).
